Tik Tok is getting more and more popular, it’s only a matter of time before the app completely takes over the internet and users, in a good way.
Like Vine before Tik Tok, you can watch teenagers become big internet celebrities. All the glory for their dance videos, challenges, sketches and other impressive content. But Tik Tok has proven to be a force to be reckoned with with his ability to make hits from previously unknown music or artists.
After the success of the monster Lil Nas X with the hit “Old Town Road”, several more tracks, including Roddy Ricch -The Box, reached the top of the world charts. From young artists like Doja Cat and Roddy Ricch to tracks from Mariah Carey and Kesha, TikTok has the ability to create a hit and bring older hits back to the charts.

K CAMP- Lottery (Renegade)
The Renegade challenge swept across TikTok in February 2020 and continues into March. 15 complex movements set to the music of K Camp – Lottery, where the word “renegade” is repeated several times. The dance was created by 14-year-old Jalaiah Harmon (@jalaiahharmon) on Instagram in September 2019 before it was picked up by tiktokers.

The challenge went viral, but Jalaya’s name didn’t appear anywhere. Instead, all the cream was given to Charli D’Amelio and Addison Rae, along with the rest of the Hype House members. Other celebrities soon followed suit: Lizzo, Millie Bobby Brown and James Charles all performed the dance and recorded videos for their accounts.
Jalaya finally got the recognition she deserved, later performing on the NBA All-Star Game and on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Roddy Rich – The Box
“The Box” was used as a track for some of the TikTok dances, but it was the meme videos that boosted the track’s popularity on the platform.
Roddy Ricch
Back in December 2019, TikToker @jaywill4real posted a video of him cleaning a mirror tuned to the tune of “The Box” along with the caption “This is how Roddy Rich made The Box.” Other tiktokers followed suit, making the song popular.

Roddy Rich later beat out Justin Bieber’s “Yummy” to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. As with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road”, the success of “The Box” proves the power of Tik Tok and the platform’s impact on music charts.
Doja Cat- Say So
The “Say So” dance was created by user Haley Sharpe (@yodelinghale), who later appeared in the Doja Cat music video for the song.

Hayley first uploaded the video in December 2019 before uploading the full dance. The theme was then taken up by famous Tik Tok and YouTube personalities such as James Charles, Emma Chamberlain and Charlie D’Amelio, whose videos garnered 5.2 million likes.

Following the success of Hayley’s original version of the dance, she later created the full version, which can be viewed here.
Ke$ha- Cannibal
For some reason, tiktokers took Kesha’s 2010 track “Cannibal” and turned it into a dance hit for a Tik Tok challenge.

Dance of 14 movements created by @ya.girl.bri.bri97. The movements are set to a short snippet of the song that begins after Kesha sings “i’ll eat you up” at the end of the chorus. The track’s lyrical ending with the words “Stir my tea with your finger and for dessert I’ll suck your teeth” is also used on the app to elicit a reaction from parents.

Dua Lipa- Don’t Start Now
Thanks to the introductory lyric (“Did a full 180”), Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” inspired a new TikTok meme that people use to avoid something or someone.
Dua Lipa
TikToker @isaac_tuazon posted a video of himself at the mall, then turned around and ran the other way after meeting someone from school he didn’t want to talk to. The meme is evolving and it is now one of the requested tracks on the March 2020 Popular Songs list on TikTok.
